Elisa Pena

For the artist, clay is a channel of expression. "Through clay or cement I make real all the scenes kept during my life. With this material I put out what dwells in my inner world", says Elisa.

The works of Elisa Pena vary between the sacred, with sculptures of saints with baroque inspirations and the profane, inspired in the everyday life and people. The artist's sculptures can be of small, medium or large size and her angels, saints, heads, women, female and male nudes have decorated countless rooms, gardens and façades.

This great variety of sizes and shapes in Elisa's work is mainly due to the discovery of the iron-cement technique. In this kind of work, a layer of cement and sand is manually applied on an iron structure, allowing more freedom in the construction. With this technique, the artist is able to create various ways of reaching the result she wants, working the shapes into smaller or gigantic pieces which do not become too heavy.

When finished, a ferro-cement sculpture can offer various sensations, and can not only be seen, but also touched, an important sensation for the artist. Some of Elisa's pieces are also finished with iron and copper filings - made of iron-dust or copper-dust - with resins that after being bathed with acids, achieve a surprising result.

Graduated from Escola Guignard, Elisa Pena collects in her trajectory a series of successful individual and collective exhibitions. Awarded, the artist brings in her curriculum, the Bronze Medal Prize - Salão Guido Vergani; Honorable Mention - Prêmio Pediatria no Mundo das Artes - São Paulo - SP; Six titles Hors Concours - Telemig/Telemar - B. Horizonte - MG and the Popular Jury Award at the 1st Bar Humor Saloon - Casa dos Contos - B. Horizonte - MG. Among the trophies created by her are: Cauê Award - Symbol Trophy - Best of Theatre and Dance; Unimed Trophy - B. Horizonte - MG and the Capézio Trophy - B. Horizonte - MG.
