Divinas Gerais

Marcos Ajeje is a Brazilian artist whose work transcends traditional sculpture, forging a profound connection between art, nature, and cultural memory. As the founder of Divina Gerais, based in Tiradentes, Minas Gerais, he transforms reclaimed materials into art pieces that evoke the rich cultural and historical heritage of the region. His creations celebrate ancestry and sustainability, utilising reclaimed wood and found objects to craft furniture and decorative items that narrate stories and preserve both tangible and intangible local heritage.

Ajeje is also known for his role as a speaker and contributor to documentaries focusing on heritage restoration and Brazilian artists. Notably, he appeared in the documentary “O Artista e a Força do Pensamento” (The Artist and the Power of Thought), directed by Elder Fraga, which explores the life of dancer and choreographer Marcos Abranches. The film reflects on the relationship between balance and imbalance, emphasising art as a means of expression and resilience. Through his insights, Ajeje contributes significantly to conversations around art preservation and cultural valorisation.

Beyond his artistic and academic endeavours, Marcos Ajeje has received recognition for his contributions to Brazilian art. His participation in events such as the Fartura Festival and the Arvorecer Exhibition highlights his impact on the contemporary art scene. Under his leadership, Divina Gerais has become a cultural hub in Minas Gerais, fostering dialogue and appreciation for local art. His commitment to heritage preservation and cultural promotion firmly establishes him as a key figure in the region’s artistic landscape.
